It all began with a desire to send more kids to camp
Founded in 1996, making a difference ever since.
Our goal is to provide a summer camp experience to children in Transylvania County who otherwise would not be able to afford it. Because of our financial assistance program, these children are able to attend camp free of charge. We send over 30 children to camp each summer. Since 1996, we have helped over 600 children go to camp. Kids in Camp (KIC) is a 501c3 non-profit.
Our Mission
The Kids in Camp experience helps children by facilitating:
healthy, developmentally-appropriate activities
a sense of belonging and community
discovery through experiential education
interaction with caring, competent role models
connection with and respect for the outdoor world
Our Support
95% of our donated funds pay for tuition and camp fees. The other 5% helps support our website, fundraising efforts, and postage. The program is managed entirely by a volunteer committee. We also obtain financial support from the camps themselves, who provide a large tuition discount. We also rely on community organizations, churches, grants, and individual donations.
